In May 2022, The Center for Medical Informatics and Professional Development (CMIPD) set out to collaborate with various health institutions across the country for a cervical screening project titled; A community based comparative study of cervical cancer screening approaches among rural and urban Nigerian women: A national cross-sectional study. It is a multicenter study taking place in various tertiary institutions in several states in Nigeria.
The burden of cervical cancer is huge in Africa and Nigeria accounts for a disproportionately large part of this burden due to inadequate screening of its population. Current estimates indicate that less than 10% of women older than 18 years had ever been screened for cervical cancer in Nigeria.
As a non-profit organization committed to bridging the gap in the healthcare system in developed and developing countries, we consider this venture our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in curbing the morbidity and mortality rate of cervical cancer in Nigeria.
